Set out along the northwest trail for Oregon

A thousand miles from independence

Water, wood & grass-- supplies for your loved ones

The journey, boy, will be tremendous

North to Fort Hall, above the Great Salt Lake

Leave Springfield, ride along the Platte River

Make it to South Pass

It is no use to take such a roundabout

There is a nigher route

Leave the northern trail, head south to the salt lake

Cross the desert and you’re away
